NANA AMA MCBROWN AND JOHN DUMELOThe maiden edition of Ghana Movie Awards (MAG’s) which was recently launched at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, has opened entry for nominations. The main award ceremony would be held at the Accra International Conference Center on December 25, 2010 and the deadline for submission of works is Friday, October 15, 2010.

According to a press statement issued by the organizers of the award, entries are open for all ‘good’ movies released between October 2009 and September 30, 2010. Local movie producers and individual owners of eligible movies/films are expected to send in their productions with a copy of printed screen credits to the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) offices in Accra (MUSIGA Hall) and FIPAG offices in Kumasi, in the Cultural Centre premises, formerly Copyright Offices.

Within the same period, a team of 100 members which represent the various aspects of  movie production process, comprising actors, directors, writers, producers, technicians and visual effects creators, to name a few, will be invited to form the Screening and Nomination Committee (SNC) of Ghana Movie Awards 2010. The nomination process commences when each of the 100 members of SNC and the MAG Jury are asked to select their favourite eligible movies from all the entries.

Nominations for the various categories would be announced at a Nominees Release Party on October 29 for the commencement of the selection process for winners.  The final voting process is relatively similar to the nomination process but the Jury and SNC will have 60% while the general public will have 40% of vote composition through SMS.

In all, 32 golden MAG statuettes would be presented to deserving personalities on Christmas Day. The award various awards for the acting categories would be in pairs; one for English acting and the other for local languages. The overall Best Actor and Best Actress would drive home one each of the new Zotye SUV donated by Feiya Engineering Ghana Ltd.

Ghana Movie Awards 2010 final presentation is dubbed “The Party of the Season” because about one-third of seats available on the night will go to the stars and industry deep players. Ghana Movie Awards is organized by GP Ltd in collaboration with Image Consortium and supported by all the major stakeholders in the Ghana Film Industry and the Ministry of Information.
