Ghana’s most decorated rapper, Sarkodie has been trending on social media over the weekend following some comments he made in an interview.

The “No Pressure” rapper appeared as a guest on Firestick’s YouTube channel  and made some comments about the criticism Ghanaian musicians have had from the media over the years about not climbing unto the International ladder with their music.

According to Sarkodie, although artists have to work harder on their music to take them to that level, they also need help from their surroundings.

Sarkodie further explained that he doesn’t think it is fair for radio personalities to keep jabbing Ghanaian artists all the time for remaining stagnant when they themselves have not made any progress in their careers internationally.

“Until we are able to build ourselves to that point…It is easy for someone to sit on the radio and say that Shatta Wale or Sarkodie didn’t do this or that. We the artiste have things we should do still, because every time there is a step but if you are on a radio in Ghana for close to 20 years and you’ve never made it to a platform like Choice or BBC, I don’t think you have the moral right to talk about artistes who have not moved. I had the chance to be on BBC because of Komla Dumor,” he explained.

Sarkodie’s comment has since gone viral and caught the attention of the likes of DJ Slim of Radio One who has called out the rapper for disrespecting Ghanaian DJs.

According to DJ Slim, Sarkodie has touted himself as the “best rapper in Africa” on the international front, hence, should not be complaining about not getting support from home.

“You naa say u be the best rapper in Africa nobody come force u to talk that, now go and represent us to on the foreign scene too u dey complain ? U start music den Davido and wizkid all be kiddies , I feel ur frustration but channel it well. #ForTheCulture – DJ slim tweeted.

DJ Slim’s comment on Sarkodie’s interview backfired as Twitter users came to the defence of Sarkodie.

Meanwhile, Shatta Wale has come to the defence of Sarkodie stating that his comments are a wake up call to everyone in the industry.

“Clap for sarkodie … it’s a wake up call …Fire deh burn deh come I will be back like terminator,” he tweeted.

Shatta Wale also used the opportunity to call for unity amongst all the musicians in the industry and stop the daily comparison.

“SM ,BHIM,SARK ,BLACKO,MDK fans let’s all use this opportunity and capitalize on what sark and let’s stop all “this one is better than this” ..we are wasting our time..period… I am for the truth ,no lies,” he added.
