One of the most entertaining free-to-air television channels in Accra and some parts of Ghana, Viasat 1 is rolling out a number of new and exciting shows and series guaranteed to have viewers glued to their TV sets in the coming days. These include some of the biggest series from the best studios in the world as well as two of Viasat 1’s debut studio productions.

Speaking at a press gathering in Accra the CEO Mr Rune Skogeng said “I have promised we will keep investing in the Viasat1 brand by launching local productions in 2010. We are now delivering on that promise. Own productions will help localize the Viasat1 brand and we strongly believe they will help us take further shares of the TV advertising market. Our productions facilities in Accra are now up and running, and it will enable us to churn out high quality TV shows made right here in Ghana.”

Viasat1 will launch two new local productions this August:

The One Show is a female skewed daily talk show hosted by seasoned TV presenter Joselyn Dumas. The show will discuss interesting subjects such as family, friendship, fashion, relationships, and other subjects touching the lives of Ghanaians. Joselyn Dumas commented “this is one of the most costly and exciting TV productions ever done in Ghana, and there is no doubt in my mind it will become a massive success. We have gathered a team of skilled production professionals to ensure the program is high quality and resonates with the brand values of Viasat1. I am very excited to be part of The One Show.”  It premieres on Monday August 2.

David Oscar Dogbe commented “the second I joined Viasat1 it became obvious I am working with seasoned professionals. Viasat1 can draw on learnings from other countries and apply best practice right here in Ghana. There is no doubt in my mind that Laugh a Minute will be a big hit and that Viasat1 will raise the bar for quality TV productions made in Ghana.” Premiere date to be announced later.

In addition to The One Show and Laugh a Minute, Viasat1 will launch a range of new and exciting programs this year. Deals have been signed with the five biggest studios in Hollywood, which will enable Viasat 1 to keep showing top quality blockbuster movies. In addition, strong titles such as Deal or no Deal Nigeria, Ghost Whisperer and Grey’s Anatomy, to mention a few, will be launched this year.

Ghost Whisperer is an American television drama, which ran on CBS from September 23, 2005 to May 21, 2010. The series follows the life of Melinda Gordon played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, who has the ability to see and communicate with ghosts. While trying to live as normal a life as possible—she is married and owns an antique store—Melinda helps earthbound spirits resolve their problems and cross over into the Light, or the spirit world.

Her tasks are difficult and at times she struggles with people who push her away and disbelieve her ability. In addition, the ghosts are mysterious and sometimes menacing in the beginning and Melinda must use the clues available to her to understand the spirit’s needs and help them. The first season introduces Romano, a former cult leader from Europe who influenced his followers to commit a mass suicide in 1939. His own suicide transformed him into an earth-bound negative entity.
